First round Ulster Cup exit for Derriaghy

On a day when there were showers about it was no surprise the home side were asked to bat when Ardmore won the toss.

It turned out to be a good decision by the visitors as most Derriaghy batsmen struggled against a good bowling attack and were bowled out inside 36 overs for 128.

Robert Cumins 30 and Peter Bell 24 shared in the only partnership of note in their innings while Ross Bailey contributed 19.

After tea the North West side got off to a flying start hitting 3 maximums and 24 runs in total in the only over bowled by Craig Lewis.

The high strike rate continued despite Peter Bell picking up 2 wickets. Ex Ireland player Decker Curry then took control playing some vintage shots in his 65 not out to see his side home with 6 wickets and nearly 10 overs to spare.

Sunday was due to be the much anticipated rearranged derby against Lisburn. Unfortunately the heavy overnight and early morning rain put paid to any chance of play so the teams now have one final chance to complete the fixture before early July.

This Saturday sees the Firsts travel to Stormont for their 2nd round AJ Gallagher Challenge cup game with play due to get underway at 12 noon.

Before that on Friday evening they journey to The Lawn to face Waringstown in their final Lagan Valley Steels T20 group match.

Both the Second and Third XIs recorded fine victories on Saturday and remain unbeaten and top of their respective leagues.

In a rearranged T20 game at North Down the Seconds ran out winners by 8 wickets. The home side were bowled out for 88 with Kingsley Beckett taking 3 for 17, Travis Moorhead 2 for 16 and Scott Hughes 2 for 24 being the pick of the bowlers. Derriaghy knocked off the runs quickly mainly due to a solid 46 not out from Davy Scott.

This week the Seconds travel to face Templepatrick in the Intermediate cup.

The Thirds made the journey to Carrickfergus to face a strong home outfit and came away with a super 5 wicket win.

After some rain prior to start they played on the artificial pitch which meant a short boundary on the clubhouse side. The home side used this well to their advantage striking 171 for 6 in their allotted overs.

Jonny Bell picked up 2 of the wickets to fall while under 16 players Ben Nelson, Jamie White, Lewis Curry and Jonny Lynch all performed well with the ball.

Captain Micky Fell opened the batting with John Close and although both departed early on Jonny Bell took up the chase producing a superb 80 not out that seen his side home to a final over victory.

He shared in two good partnerships with J Lynch (33) and an unbroken 6th wicket stand with Ben Nelson (21 not out) – the latter timed to perfection as they passed the Carrick total with 3 balls to spare and maintain their unbeaten league run. This week the Thirds travel to Dundrum Seconds

After their win over CIYMS the Under 15s head to Dundrum on Thursday for their semi final Graham Cup match. Everyone at the club wish them well as they attempt to reach their first final in 10 years.

The Under 13s also head to the County Down town this week for a Banogue cup match while the U11s face Armagh.
