Fittis stars with the bat in Cup victory

Carrick’s unbeaten Second XI eased into the quarter-finals of the Intermediate Cup with a comfortable 86-run victory over Instonians III on Saturday.

Carrick batted first and Adam Fittis was an ever-present throughout their 40 overs, registering an impressive 81 not-out as his team scored a 245 for 5.

He shared an opening stand of 66 with Jack Burton (38), and then another 50 partnership with skipper John Stewart (28).

Carrick moved along to 144 for 5 with 12 overs remaining when Richard Hood joined Fittis at the wicket and the pair proceeded to add 101 runs, with Hood unbeaten on 53 at the close of the innings.

After 20 overs Carrick’s bowlers had contained the home side to 65 for 4 and the game was over as a contest. They were eventually bowled out for 159 in the 35th over, with Simon Scott picking up three wickets and Alastair Burton, Fittis, and Tommie Humphries taking two each.
