Former Zimbabwe Test cricketer in Ballymena

FORMER Zimbabwe Test cricketer Henry Olonga will visit Ballymena Cricket Club tonight (Tuesday).

Fast bowler Olonga became Zimbabwe's youngest international cricketer when he was selected to play against Pakistan back in 1995 and he was also the first black cricketer to play for Zimbabwe.

He will be at the Eaton Park club from 5.45pm when he will take a 'net' with a number of young local cricketers.

Afterwards there will be a barbecue and following that, Henry will speak and sing - he's a trained opera singer - to those attending.

Olonga is also famously known for his act of bravery at the 2003 Cricket World Cup, wearing a black armband in silent protest against the policies of Robert Mugabe's government.

Henry has later cited his faith in Jesus Christ as a major influence behind his decision to make his statement. Following pending threats Henry made a narrow escape into hiding in South Africa and then England.

The Ballymena event has been organised by the Christian Men's Business Committee.
