Foursome in Ireland World Cup squad

North West cricketers William Porterfield, Stuart Thompson, Craig Young and Andrew McBrine have all been selected for Ireland’s ICC Cricket World Cup campaign.

The foursome are part of a 15 man squad selected as Phil Simmons’ squad, who travelled to the UAE from January 4th to 19th, get ready to take on the world.

The tour will comprise of four One-Day Internationals, two against both Afghanistan and Scotland, and is part of the final preparations for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Ireland start their World Cup campaign with a tough encounter against West Indies in New Zealand on Monday February 16, before facing United Arab Emirates in the world famous The Gabba, in Brisbane, on Wednesday February 25.

Next up is the one of the tournaments favourites South Africa on Tuesday, March 3 in Canberra, then Ireland face Zimbabwe on March 7 in Hobart.

Then it’s back to New Zealand to face India, on Tuesday, March 10, before finishing Pool B off against Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval, on Sunday, March 18.

All the games will be live on Sky Sports throughout February and March.
