Fourths off to a winning start

Coleraine fourths recorded their first victory of the fledgling cricket season with an emphatic win over visitors Fox Lodge.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first Coleraine racked up an impressive 243 for 4 in their forty overs. The highlight of the innings was an unbeaten 90 from Stephen Hutchinson who continues to impress at Coleraine with both bat and ball.

He was ably supported by Hamza Khan (38) Matthew Caufield (34) and Marcus Poskitt (21). Khan’s form must also be noted in this side having scored 55 last week in the defeat to Bready.

The visitors never looked like chasing down the total despite a steady start and once the first wicket fell a steady trickle followed with the Foxes eventually dismissed for 72. Matthew Caufield took three wickets bowling an aggressive line that the batsmen found difficult to handle.

Indeed, all the bowlers were impressive with the only fault to be found in the performance being the number of legside wides. The debut performance of Colin Manson in tandem with Arthur Newman should see Coleraine be a force in this league if they can maintain the same team.
