Fourths remain top of league after another win

FOLLOWING last week's nerve-jangling last ball victory in Templepatrick secured by Matthew Bell's brilliant batting and Connor Pogue's patience, Ballymena Fourths returned to Eaton Park to play an experienced and dangerous CSNI Fifths in the league.

Winning the toss Colin McClean asked the Stormont men to make first use of a rapidly drying track.

Mark Monteith and the much improved Matthew Bell soon had CSNI in trouble with aggressive quick bowling.

Raymond Symon, making his debut bowled an excellent spell of leg spin taking 2 for 12 before Pete Gillespie bowled his combination of in and huge out swingers to take 3 for 10.

Mark Monteith wrapped up the tail, ending with figures of 4 for 25 with CSNI being all out for 123.

Ballymena's reply began in its now regular circumspect manner before Ali Gibson was bowled by an almost unplayable delivery.

Stuart Watt and Colin McClean took the total to 68 before McClean played over a straight ball.

Watt was also soon out but David Lamont scored an excellent 30 before leaving it to Chris Barr to score the winning runs, with Ballymena winning by four wickets.

Another good victory puts the Braidmen at the top of the league, 4 points ahead of their nearest rivals with a game in hand.

This week the Fourths are at home to Holywood Thirds in the semi final of the Minor Qualifying cup.
