Francie clear winneras Lynne nets an ace

The last week of May was a hive of golfing activity at Lurgan Golf Club, the week began with a Seniors Open.

By virtue of a better back nine Francie McKenna took the honours with a hard fought total of 40 points. Francie used his handicap wisely and four double bogeys were his only wayward actions. Par figures at holes three and twelve were his feature scores on the day.

Runner up was John McEvoy with his similar tally of 40 points. Three others had good scores but fell out of the prize reckoning. Mickey Horan had 39 points whilst 38 points was the lot of Brian Clarke and Ian Montgomery. A score of 30 points earned Debbie McCollum the ladies prize in the competition.

On the Tuesday the ladies were playing for prizes donated by club professional Peter Hanna. One lady who was determined to impress was Peter’s wife Lynne. She wasn’t taking any chances about her scoring being good enough to get a mention in the prizes. So to make sure she wasn’t left out she had a hole in one. Everyone was also delighted to see Priscilla Clatyon win Peter’s prize with 38 points and entry to the PGA qualifier.

The runners up prize went to Niamh Ward with 36 points. Niamh was having a break from studying and it’s good to see her out on the fairways again. With Niamh getting the runner up prize Sian Mulholland picked up the gross with 26 gross points. There’s a distinct feel of deja vu about this week’s results with the section one prize going to Christine Hagan with 35 points beating her mixed foursomes team mate Heather Shaw on the better back nine. Section 2 went to another mixed foursomes player Orla O’Dowd, with 34 points. Section 3 went to Ita Hanna with 36 points.

Thanks again to Peter Hanna for his prizes and his ongoing support of the ladies section.
