Game toforget as ‘Cloney crash

This is a game Donaghcloney will want to forget, they lost by a crushing margin of 154 runs at the Cloughan to a young and enthusiastic Templepatrick team well marshalled by Australian professional Warren Clunes.

Winning the toss, skipper Keith Martin decided to field first in damp overcast conditions. The bowlers, especially the spinners, had difficulty gripping the ball and fielding was not easy either. Nevertheless, Templepatrick were 59 for 3 wickets after 20 overs and the game was finely balanced. However, Clunes, Smith and Bryans took control and the final score was 244, which included an irritating last wicket stand of 38. Best bowlers were Steven Hanna with 2 for 23 in 10 overs, and Tim McClure with 3 for 51.

After tea, the sun shone to the advantage of Templepatrick. After Gary Knox was dismissed in the second over, Mansing Nigade and Bruce Topping went along at a merry rate, until Topping was caught on the boundary for 16. Steven Hanna made 15, and Nigade 28, but after that the innings collapsed to 90 all out.

Templepatrick: 244 for 9. W. Clunes 67, S. Hanna 2 for 23, T. McClure 3 for 51.

Donaghcloney: 90 all out. M. Nigade 28, B. Topping 16, S. Hanna 15.

Templepatrick won by 154 runs.
