Gary has Lisburn in a spin as Waringstown cruise into semis

By remarkable coincidence the villagers totalled exactly 266 - the same as the recent league win, but that is where the comparison between the respective matches ends.

At 30 without loss Lisburn were apparently making serene progress, but in the space of five overs they lost five wickets for just seven runs.

The damage was largely self-inflicted, professional Cody Chetty encapsulating their demise by recklessly driving Gary Kidd to cover.

That was the first of Kidd’s six wickets, at a slim cost of 12 runs, and with Nelson taking 3-30, Lisburn were dismissed for 79 in just 28.1 overs.

Earlier Lisburn had Waringstown worried at 72 for three and then 96 for four but Greg Thompson inevitably produced when he needed to, his 55 containing seven boundaries and including a match-defining partnership of 83 with David Dawson (26).

Kyle McCallan, who struck three sixes in his 44 from 48 balls, then added 57 with man-of-the-match Kidd (22) to take the game out of Lisburn’s reach.

With at least three key players missing, this was some statement of intent from the villagers.

On Saturday the top two sides in the Premier League clash as Waringstown take on second placed Carrickfergus at The Lawn.

Waringstown Seconds progressed to the next round of the Ulster Plate on Sunday.

With no play because of rain it went to the bowl out and Waringstown won 2-0.
