Grammar cricketers win Derriaghy Cup

The U-14 boys competed in a very exciting final of the Derriaghy Cup against Belfast Royal Academy at their Castle Grounds.

It was a great achievement for the boys to get this far, as they had some great victories along the way.

They beat Belfast High School by 102 runs with Jack Henderson getting 45 runs and Jon McMichael and Steven McCluskey four wickets each, and produced a six wicket victory over Foyle College in the second round.

Jacob Logan-Wilson captained the boys to a 158 run victory over Regent in the quarter-final, recording a massive 150 runs and two wickets in the process.

They faced Methodist College, Belfast, in the semifinals where they bowled them all out for 53 runs and chased them down with four wickets to spare, with Year 9 Sam McClelland putting in a great performance, amongst others.

The entire squad performed very well throughout the whole season and were very focused on the day of the final.

They bowled out a very good BRA side for 39 runs. Jacob Logan-Wilson made the break through by taking two big wickets in the third and fifth overs. Jack Mark and Ronan McFall worked very hard in the field to limit the singles, with Steven McCluskey producing a stunning bowling display with two maidens and one wicket maiden. The man of the match, Jon McMichael, led by example, taking five wickets and two maidens for only three runs. Limavady Grammar started their innings nervously with Jacob and Steven getting bowled for only nine runs.

It was young Andrew Scott who settled the team, recording 11 precious runs to be eventually caught with a stunning catch. Jordan Eakin came in with four runs and James Howe with a powerful batting performance of 11 runs not out that won a very entertaining match for Limavady Grammar School. The boys performed superbly and were well-deserved 2015 winners of the Derriaghy Cup for the first time in Limavady’s history.
