Winning the famous old trophy is considered one of the toughest tasks in NCU Junior cricket and to do it two years in a row must go down as a remarkable achievement.

Waringstown’s bowlers got on top of CI from the start, with Stuart Harrison, the off-spinner, proving particularly difficult to get away on a slow pitch.

Harrison’s four for 18 was particularly instrumental in CI being bowled out for 85.

That total didn’t look too demanding to chase but there were nervous moments when Marcus McClean, fresh from a hundred in his previous under-15 match, was caught early on as he tried to work the ball to leg.

Ross Waite was Waringstown’s key man and he delivered, hitting a succession of boundaries which made inroads into the target.

However, when Waite was lbw for 28 Morgan Topping was a key man as Waringstown got home by four wickets.
