Holm men aretwo wins from title

THE Longs Super Valu Senior One title has been whittled down to two teams after last weekends action.

Donemana are in pole position although they lost last Saturday to Fox Lodge but bounced back on Sunday with a win over Strabane the second defeat for the Red Caps in two days.

Richard Kee’s side know if they win their remaining two games this weekend then they will be champions. Bready after two victories over the weekend have one game left and if they win that and Donemana lose one of their two fixtures then David Scanlon’s side will lift the title.

The battle for the dreaded play off place concerns Glendermott and Fox Lodge both winning important games last Saturday, the Bonds Street men are slight favourites to avoid the play off with Eglinton.

Saturday

Donemana v Coleraine

The men from the Holm know what is required of them, they were a bit shell shocked not being able to chase 128 last week at Fox Lodge, but with all their players available again they are odds on favourites to complete a cup and league double.

The Bannsiders title hopes all but disappeared last weekend so they may not be up for this one, they have had a good season and with one or two strengtheners they will be a force next season.

Prediction: Donemana.

Fox Lodge v Bready

What a game this should be with both sides needing a win for different reasons, the Foxies know that a defeat will probably mean a play off with Eglinton but as they showed last week they are capable of beating anyone on their day.

Bready have quietly gone about their business and have got themselves in a challenging position for the title, they know doubt will have one ear on what is happening at the Holm but they must win this one.

Prediction: Bready.

Brigade v Limavady

Mark Simpson’s side have shown their best form in the last month winning their last three games they know that they under performed in a lot of matches this season but will be determined to keep their winning run going.

The Roesiders have fallen apart in the last couple of weeks and in last Sunday’s defeat at Bready they had players playing carrying injuries, the home side may prove to strong.

Prediction: Brigade.

Strabane v Creevedonnell

The Red Caps had a disastrous weekend where their title hopes went up in smoke, they have lost their last three games and there is talk that one or two of their most experienced players are contemplating retirement.

The Creevies knew it was going to be a struggle in the top flight but at least they did win two games, they will have enjoyed the experience.

Prediction: Strabane.

Glendermott v Bonds Glen

Gordon Montgomery will have his players wound up for this one as a win could see them move up to fourth from bottom, they will be hoping to have professional Roy Silva back for next season.

The Bee Gees will have to regroup for next season, they have some useful cricketers but are probably four or five players short of what was needed in Senior One.

Prediction: Glendermott.

Sunday

Donemana v Brigade

Depending on Saturday’s results this could be the game of the season, the home side if they beat Coleraine will know that they may have to get a result against an improving Brigade side.

Brigade’s skipper Mark Simpson will not be taking his side up there just to make up the numbers and on their day they will make things tough for the home side, but Donemana’s cause is the greater and that could make all the difference.

Prediction: Donemana.
