With rain threatening and Derriaghy having won the toss, they asked Carrick to bat first and were soon to regret that decision. After an early loss, Gilmour and Holmes took the score along to 99 off only 13 overs before rain put an end to proceedings for 45 minutes.

The innings was then reduced to 48 overs and Carrick continued to score freely, taking the score past 150 in the 23rd over. They had added 138 runs when Gilmour who made 14 boundaries in his fine innings of 82 off only 68 balls, hit a return catch to bowler Bell to give Derriaghy a much-needed breakthrough.

However, when Kamtekar joined Holmes at the wicket, the runs continued to flow and the pair added another 136 runs in 16 overs with Holmes completing a superb hundred.

He was eventually out for 130 off 115 deliveries with 16 boundaries and two sixes. By this time the Carrick total was past the 300-mark, with eight overs remaining.

When Kamtekar reached his milestone, the total was on a club record 351. His magnificent innings of exactly 100 was scored off only 71 balls, with 10 fours and four maximums. At the end of their 48 overs Carrick had reached a formidable total of 361 for 8.

With ominous dark clouds encircling, Carrick hoped their efforts with the bat would not be in vain, and with 20 overs required to be bowled in the second innings to achieve a result, they opened the bowling with spinners Jamie Holmes and Ryan Eagleson.

Derriaghy made their intentions clear as Bailey and Bell took 49 off the first 11 overs, before Bailey fell to Kamtekar’s first delivery. He then removed Bell for a rapid 49.

They got the 20 overs completed but Derriaghy were going well at this stage and were just behind on Duckworth-Lewis at 129 for 2. Holmes then trapped skipper Holmes lbw, and Lewis who was looking dangerous, was caught by Eagleson off Alex Haggan to reduce them to 149 for 4 off 23 overs when the rain came.

When they were able to resume, D/L was not kind to Derriaghy who now only had 40 overs to get a reduced target of 331.

Two wickets for Richard Hood just after the resumption ended the game as a contest and they were eventually all out for 252 in the 38th over, giving Carrick victory by 78 runs.
