Home comfort for Carrick in Twenty20 final at Middle Road

Carrickfergus Cricket Club 1st XI have reached the final of the Lagan Valley Steels Twenty20 Trophy, following a comfortable 44-run semi-final win over Downpatrick at Strangford Road.

It comes on the back of earlier victories over Lurgan and Holywood and will see Carrick play Derriaghy in the showpiece on Thursday evening (July 17), starting at 6.15 pm.

As an added bonus, Carrick will play the match at their own Middle Road ground, which had already been nominated as the final venue.

All support will be welcome on Thursday, when music and a barbecue will add to the excitement of what should be a great night of T20 cricket.

In last week’s semi-final, a 101-run third-wicket partnership between Jamie Holmes and Ryan Eagleson (below) was crucial in Carrick posting 152 for three against Downpatrick at Strangford Road.

Holmes hit 63 from 49 balls with five fours and two sixes, while Eagleson’s unbeaten 58 was scored off only 40 deliveries and included eight fours and a six. It proved too much for the home team as Carrick’s bowlers all produced tidy spells, restricting them to only 108 for 8 in their 20 overs.
