Phil Simmons’ men easily accounted for second seeds Afghanistan after a sublime batting display, in Saturday night’s final, in Abu Dhabi.

Once again Porterfield called correctly and just as they have done in every game throughout the tournament Ireland went in first and scored an impressive 225 for seven wickets, with Trent Johnston and Paul Stirling both hitting the ball well, scoring 62 and 76 respectively.

Then Ireland’s bowlers did what they do best and saw out the victory, bowling Afghanistan all out for 157, to see Ireland secure a 68 runs win.

After the game Sentinel Sport’s cricket correspondent Barry Chambers spoke to Porterfield.
