Irish Senior Cup delight for Derriaghy Cricket Club

Derriaghy travelled to The Lawn on Saturday and were resoundly beaten by current Ulster Bank Premier League champions Waringstown.

Batting first The Queensway men were in early trouble against the home side pace attack with P Eagleson picking up 3 wickets for 27.

After this it was the spinners who did the damage with McCallan, Kidd and Hall among the wickets.

Only Andrew Kenny with 34 put up much resistance as the side were dismissed for 93 in 36 overs.

The home side had little difficulty in knocking of the runs required with Rob Cumins 2 for 29 being the only wicket taker.

On Sunday in the Irish Senior Cup County Galway were the visitors to Queensway and this match was similar to Saturday’s game only this time Derriaghy were victors by seven wickets.

The travellers made 79 all out with spinners Wayne Hughes three for 13 and Curtis Moorhead three for six and Peter Bell two for 12 being the main wicket takers.

Despite losing Jamison for 16 and Bailey for 18 captain Craig Lewis seen his side home with a blitz of 26 not out.

Friday night (3 June) sees Instonians at Queensway in a Lagan Valley Steels T20 game starting at 6pm.

On Saturday in the league North Down are the visitors in a game starting at 1pm.

The Thirds, meanwhile, remain unbeaten in the league after their convincing 45 run home win over Dundrum Seconds.

The Thirds were in early trouble slipping to 33 for five.

But a magnificant 100 run partnership between under 17 players Zalar Khan (57) and Sam Cardosi (48) saw their side through to 178 for nine.

The visitors found the home bowlers difficult to score against.

Despite a few late order runs they were dismissed for 133.

Ben Nelson was the chief wicket taker with three for 17 while Patrick Anderson two for 19 and Sam Cardosi two for 27 also featured.

This week the Thirds are again in league action, at Queensway, on Sunday against Waringstown.

The Seconds have two away games.

The first is at Instonians III on Saturday and then at North Down in the Intermediate cup on Sunday.
