Kerr's continue Irish Senior Cup sponsorship

CRICKET fans in the North West will breathe a sigh of relief. It was announced last week that the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup has had its sponsorship extended.

Cricket Ireland made the announcement last week that an agreement had been reached with Mrs Hope Kerr. This means the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup will receive sponsorship for a further three years.

The sponsorship is in memory of her late husband, Mr Bob Kerr, a former President and Chairman of Cricket Ireland.

Commenting on the renewed sponsorship, Hope Kerr said: "I am honoured to have Bob's name associated with Ireland's premier competition, and I am pleased to be able to further promote the all-Ireland dimension of cricket which was very important to my late husband."

Chairman of the Cricket Ireland cricket committee, Joe Doherty welcomed the news of the extended sponsorship.

He said: "I am delighted to learn that Mrs Hope Kerr will continue to sponsor our premier domestic competition in memory of her late husband.

"The Cricket Committee has approved updated playing regulations for the 2010 competition, including power plays and front foot no ball penalties, so we are in for an exciting and entertaining summer, of that there is no doubt.

"On a personal level, I love to see cricket competitions being sponsored by cricket people, and the Kerr name on the Cup is a fitting tribute to a man who worked tirelessly for Irish cricket at all levels over many years."

The third round draw has thrown up some interesting ties for the North West sides.

In-form Coleraine host Instonians, Limavady travel to North County, Fox Lodge take on Leinster and the North West's final representative Glendermott have a home tie with Civil Service North.

The remaining games sees Merrion take on CIYMS, Malahide entertain Waringstown, Pembroke face The Hills and Railway Union versus YMCA.

All ties will be played on Saturday, June 12.
