The competition, hosted by Larne Cricket Club, attracted 12 school teams and featured over 70 young boys and girls.

With four separate pitches in use there were plenty of fours, sixes and wickets to keep the children and spectators entertained.

Larne and Inver Primary School emerged victorious and took home the prize of six cricket bats after an exciting victory over Cairncastle in the final.

Linn Primary lost out at the semi-final stage with their two teams just failed to make it to the final.

Tournament organiser, and Larne Cricket Club chairman, Trevor Dempsey, presented all the participants with medals and he was quick to point out that the real winners were “the youngsters and the game of cricket itself.”

After the tournament Dempsey thanked all the members of Larne Cricket Club for visiting all the schools to provide basic coaching in the weeks before the tournament.

“It has taken a lot of work and we would also like to thank Larne Borough Council and its Sports Development team for their support. Also, our club sportswear provider O’Neill’s and Asda.

“Hopefully this can become an annual event as everyone seemed to have a great day.”

n Larne Cricket Club Junior practice is on a Monday night at Sandy Bay from 6:30 pm. All youth players are welcome to attend.
