Larne still waiting to get season under way

The club’s First XI now turn their attention to this weekend’s home game against Drumaness (1pm, Saturday) start at Sandy Bay. With both of Larne’s scheduled matches having fallen victim to the weather, the game will be a tricky one as the visitors have already played and won a game this year.

Having triumphed in Section 3 last year, the local side will be particularly keen to record an early win in what is certain to be a very competitive league.

Club captain, and last year’s top wicket-taker, Gareth Gaw will be leading a young but talented side into Section Two. Larne have been boosted by the recent return to fitness of star batsman Gareth Alexander, who missed last year’s successful title run-in through injury.

Young all-rounders Chris Dempsey, Aaron McKinley and Zach Wetherhead are also expected to continue their development and help the side as they bid consolidate their Section 3 status.

The club also fields a Second XI and an Under-13 side and is always looking for new players of any standard or age.

Practice will run (weather permitting) throughout the summer on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Sandy Bay from 6:30pm. There is a home match almost every Saturday and anyone who is interested in cricket is very welcome to attend.

The Seconds begin their season on May 18 with a home game against Donaghadee, so now is the perfect time for budding new cricketers to take up the game.
