Leinster prove too strong for Middle Road men

A delayed start saw the game reduced to 40 overs, again due to the recent rain. With Carrick losing the toss and having to bowl first, 56-5 after 25 overs was more than an ideal response.

Some lower-order hitting from Leinster saw them reach 122 all-out in the 37th over, which seemed slightly under-par.

Carrick set about the chase and against some excellent bowling, also lost early wickets.

At 32-5, things were not looking promising, but a steady 32 from club veteran Ryan Eagleson helped the cause. However it wasn’t meant to be for Carrick, who were 114 all-out in the end - and eight runs short.

Sunday’s scheduled 1st XI Premier League fixture against Waringstown was postponed. The game will now be a T20 match.

All other senior team games fell victim of the weather, with re-arranged dates yet to be confirmed.

Carrickfergus are set to host Downpatrick in the opening round of the Challenge Cup on Saturday (May 16). They will be in knockout action again seven days later, making the trip to Donegal to take on North West Premiership side St Johnston.
