Lisburn CC sign South African coach

Lisburn CC are pleased to announce the signing of South African Heinrich Klaasen as their professional coach for the 2016 season.

A high class batsman with the Titans franchise, Klaasen (24) has already achieved much in his short career to date, with a FC batting average of 53.38 and a highest score of 201.

In addition he is an accomplished wicketkeeper and off spinner.

After a hugely impressive 2014/15 season he was chosen to lead the South African Emerging Players tour to Sri Lanka.

It was a highly successful tour for Klaasen and he underlined his class with two fifties and a brilliant century against the Sri Lankan

Emerging team, carving out 136 off just 125 balls with 19 fours and one six.

His fine form has continued into the start of this years South African domestic season with a match winning 72 of just 39 balls for Northerns as they recently clinched the African T20 Cup.

Gary Hunt of Cric-Intro added: “Congratulations to Lisburn, they have secured a gun cricketer and a great lad.”

A Lisburn CC spokesman said: “We are delighted that Heinrich has agreed to join us as we build towards next season.

“Darryl Brown did a great job, however, after four years we decided that it was time to freshen things up.

“The Premier League is now hugely competitive and a top professional is a priority.

“We hope Heinrich has a successful and enjoyable season.”

• Meanwhile, Lisburn CC AGM will take place on Thursday 5 November 2015 at 7pm in the Cecil Walker pavilion. The agenda and notices of motion will be circulated by the Honorary Secretary shortly.
