The former Killyclooney and Fox Lodge man jetted off to Australia yesterday (Tuesday) morning as part of a programme aimed at honing his skills further and giving him experience of playing in a completely different climate.

The deal has been agreed between the 21-year-old’s county and country and the player was both excited and nervous at the prospect of six months down under.

“The trip has been arranged between the Cricket Ireland coaching and administration staff and John Bracewell who is Director of Cricket at Gloucester,” he stated.

“I will be based in Brisbane and will play for Wynnum CC to give me more experience in new conditions. I will be working with Craig McDermott a couple of days a week and will spend the rest of the time on my own fitness and of course playing for the club on Saturday’s.

“I’m obviously excited by the challenge although to be truthful I’m a bit nervous as well- it’s not as simple as flying back and forward to England. There’s a bit of an unknown factor and although I’m not sure what to expect I have been told it’s a great experience.

McCarter is obviously part of Ireland’s plans over the next number of years and he’s already focusing on the World Cup in 2015.

“I’m past the stage where I can be considered as a new face so to speak and I’m determined to try to get into the squad as a regular. The World Cup in 2015 has to be my aim at this point and I’m convinced that this experience could be a big help on that front.”
