Michael continues his Cambridge cricket education

LEG-spinner Michael Taylor recently became Ballymena's – and potentially Ireland's – first Cambridge cricket Blue, representing his university in both annual Varsity matches.

In the one-day match at Lord’s, the home of cricket, Cambridge chased 271 to win by 5 wickets. Michael took 1 for 24 with the ball, dismissing Oxford’s dangerman Neil Kruger.

The next week, in the four-day first-class match at The Parks in Oxford, Cambridge suffered an innings defeat as the Dark Blues totalled an impressive 611 for 5.

Of those five wickets, however, Michael took all but one and scored 10 and 12 when Cambridge batted.

The last Blues sportsman from Ballymena was David Humphreys, who played for Oxford in the rugby Varsity match at Twickenham in the early 1990s.
