Millpark cruise to Junior Cup upset with 13 overs to spare after a fine Sunday display

The game, which had originally been postponed due to the weather, brought an upset as the local turfed out their more senior opposition from Section Two.

With tired bodies from Saturday’s game and tired minds from the fundraising quiz the previous night, Millpark hadn’t expectd much success against a side from the league above.

BISC had even beaten the Banford Green men comfortably twice last season.

Once again, skipper Paul McCart lost the toss and they took to the field. With Richard McCann missing, vice captain Stu McCart took the new ball with Jason Maxwell.

Unfortunately for the locals, both failed to make a breakthrough and it was the introduction of Magic Man Davy Glover and the veteran Stevie McCart, which put the skids on the BISC innings.

Although Stevie didn’t bag a wicket, he proved difficult to score off bowling his 10 overs for 21 runs. However, the star of the show was Davy Glover who bowled superbly to finish with figures of 6-21.

BISC rebuilt their innings but also found the spin of Paul McCart a handful and he finished with 3-26. BISC ended with 134, which looked under par but with overcast conditions and a slow outfield it would prove to be a tricky score to get.

Millpark found their reply in difficulty immediately with Stu McCart exiting without scoring. Glover scored a well constructed 26 and while batting with Ben Talbot 27, Millpark looked comfortable.

However, another wobble left Paul McCart and Stevie McCart at the crease with still 40 runs to get.

Both men used all their years of experience taking plenty of singles and punishing any bad balls to reach the target with 13 overs to spare. Paul finished with 23 not out and Stevie 19 not out. Millpark were victorious by four wickets.

It proved to be a great opening weekend for the first eleven and they will be hoping for more of the same when they travel to face title rivals Newforge next Saturday.
