Mixed fortunes for Lisburn teams in Minor Cup

Lisburn teams had mixed fortunes in their respective cup competitions. The Thirds, playing at Wallace High took on CIYMS Thirds and won by 4 wickets.

The visitors could only manage 155 for 8 in their innings with Cyril Vergese taking two wickets and Matthew Gleave another two to restrict CI. Lisburn’s innings was dominated by man of the match Gleave who scored a superb 98 not out, making sure Lisburn went into the draw for the Minor Cup quarter final.

The Fourths had a difficult day against Downpatrick Thirds in the Minor Qualifying Cup. The visitors scored 166 in their 30 overs with an under 13 schoolboy being the pick of the Lisburn bowlers. Andrew Parker took 3 for 34 and he was well supported by veteran Andy Brown, taking 2 for 17. Unfortunately, after a good start to the innings with Joe Hardial scoring 23 and Andy Brown 32, the middle order couldn’t finish the early effort, Only Gordon McCandless with 14 showed resistance as Lisburn fell short by 49 runs at the end of their 30 overs.
