Mixed fortunes for North West sides

STRABANE made a confident start at The Lawn with Ryan Gallagher and Kevin Martin putting on 22 in the first 3 overs of their ClubTurf Ulster Cup victory at Waringstown, on Sunday.

Gallagher was out to a magnificent catch by Keith Allen running round the boundary at third man for 19.

Charlie Crasbourne a Kiwi replacing Simon Harrison as opening bowler for Waringstown won't forget this game in a hurry as first Jonathan Beukes found McCallan in the covers and then the inform Peter Gillespie played tamely to mid off where Simon Stokes took the catch.

McCallan made an immediate impact with his first delivery Martin was caught behind by Jamie Matthews deputising for the injured Jonathan Bushe, Strabane were 40 for 4 and it looked like an early trip back home was on the cards.

Just when you get rid of one Gillespie another stepped in to take his place and Mark in company with the burly Manu Sharma turned this game on its head. At first circumspect but as the partnership grew so did the shot making.

Sharma made 53 from 80 balls with three fours and a six and Gillespie was out for a superb 90 off the last ball of the 40 overs. Waringstown tried their best but finished 15 runs short.

In the match of the day in the North West, Limavady posted a mammoth 283 for 8 against North Down.

North Down went off like a train in pursuit and raced to 80-0 after 10 overs before rapidly running out of steam and collapsing to 168 all out with more than 10 overs left.

Bready lost out to Instonians, in what was a low key affair on a pretty slow track.

Batting first the hosts made 145 all out before Inst skipper Eugene Moleon decided that all out attack was the best policy and he blasted 4 sixes and a 4 in an unbeaten 35 as his side finished winners with five wickets to spare.
