Mixed weekend for Bee Gees

KILLYCLOONEY’S Mark Gordon, who made his first senior century against St Johnston last week, very nearly made it two in two as he hit 10 fours and 5 sixes in an entertaining 83, during their encounter with Bonds Glen.

Gordon is as good a cricketer as there is in this division and it is to his credit that he keeps battling.

Timothy Barr added 28 but that man Dilruk was the difference again as he claimed 5 for 55 with the ball. Derek Curry with 3 for 43 was next best as the Bee Gees recorded a 109-run win.

On Sunday, St Johnston made it a straight eight as they earned a second hard fought win in as many days this time at the expense of Bonds Glen.

The Saints were first in this time and patient batting was the theme early on as the track continued to play slow and low.

David Macbeth with a composed 55 batted well as Ryan Nixon and Kyle Moore kept the home side tied down with some accurate bowling. Moore then pulled off a stunning one-handed diving catch on the boundary to get rid of the dangerous Wallia before Ian Macbeth gave the innings some much needed late impetus. The latter hit 7 fours and a six with 32 runs coming from the last 14 balls allowing the league leaders to close on 205 for 8.

Much now depended on Dilruk and after Willie Jackson and David Robinson gave gave the Bee Gees a solid start, the Sri Lankan had his opportunity. Unfortunately for the visitors however it was to be a short stay, Dilruk hooking a high full toss straight down the throat of deep backward point just as he had started to look threatening.

Wallia with four wickets and Ian Macbeth with three were able to close out a 32-run victory.
