New professional Kyllin impressed with the set-up at Sandel Lodge

The Johannesburg native has played in England for the last four summers, but he is hoping to fire the Bannsiders on to further glory this season.

“As everyone knows the season after you win a treble is probably the hardest,” Kyllin told Times Sport.

“But all the guys are really up for it and want to bring more success to the club this season again.

“They are so focused and I just want to come in and add as much value as I can.

“It was good to get started with a win last week. The first game of the season is always a tough one because most of the guys haven’t played on grass wickets yet.

“We always knew it was going to be quite a tough game and Ardmore after getting promoted are going to cause a few upsets I’m sure.

“It was good we got all the guys a run out, even though it was a bit tight at the end with Gordon and Jared getting us home.

“The standard was pretty good. It seems like every team has two or three key players. It was surprising as the wicket played pretty good as well. For so early in the season you wouldn’t normally get that.

“There is a great blend of youth and experience here. Scott Campbell and Rishi Chopra are very promising young cricketers.

“Rishi had a really good game at Ardmore, unfortunately Scott got a first baller, but that’s cricket.

“The club is in really good hands here because they hard a brilliant youth system.

“We have 50 or 60 kids here every Wednesday night and on a Friday there can be over 100 playing Kwik Cricket.

“I think the way the club is progressing now they will always be a force to be reckoned with in Northern Ireland.

“I will be coaching every Wednesday evening and I will also be down some Friday nights too. I will also be helping out at Coleraine Inst on a Thursday also.

“The kids are very enthusiastic and always want to learn. They are always asking me how they do this and that.

“That’s great for me to see that they want to learn and improve, and that they are so excited about cricket.

“The success of Irish cricket has helped and I think Irish cricket as a whole is in a great place at the minute.

“You speak to anyone around the world they will always talk about how Irish cricket is on the up.

“If kids want to play they should just get down and get involved. At a young age it’s all about get involved.

“I’m sure there are a lot of kids who haven’t tried cricket before, but they should come along and get involved because it’s a fantastic sport.

“The facilities are brilliant, it’s one of the best clubs I’ve been at, even compared to the clubs in England. It is a great club.”
