NW cricket welcomes new league sponsor

WITH the winds of change sweeping local cricket at the moment the North West Cricket Union this week announced details of a new main sponsor as preparations for the 2012 season continue apace.

The deal sees local chain Long’s SuperValu take over the league banner and joint Managing Director of the firm, Brian Long, said they were delighted to be putting their name to the sport in the North West and beyond.

“My brother Alistair and I are delighted to be forging a new partnership with cricket in the North West and welcome the opportunity to work with players and officials over the next number of years. Long’s Supermarkets has consistently promoted a local ethic and we believe this association re-affirms our commitment to that policy.

“We are happy to commit to a realistic term too which is why we have agreed an initial three year deal that will provide stability for the local Union. The Long family expect to be regular visitors around the grounds over the coming seasons and look forward to working with the North West cricket community.”

Commenting on the deal, new North West Cricket Union President, Joe Doherty said: “On behalf of the North West cricket fraternity, I am delighted to welcome Long’s Supermarkets on board as our new partner and League sponsor.

“It is a great honour for us to have a household name associated with our sport and I am sure our clubs and families will all react positively to the generosity shown by Long’s at this important and exciting time for cricket in this region.

“Together we will combine to keep top quality cricket and top quality shopping at Long’s SuperValu at the forefront of life here in the great North West.”
