Promotion the target for Lurgan

Having been relegated from the Premier League last season on run rate, Lurgan find themselves in a Section 1 league where a number of teams will be challenging for promotion.

Last year’s runners up Downpatrick, along with Woodvale and Carrickfergus, will all be contenders and Lurgan begin their promotion campaign with a visit to Derriaghy who finished joint fourth last season.

The experienced Bruce Topping has been appointed as a player coach to the club and professional coach Niranjan Godbole arrives this week for his eleventh season at Pollock Park and will captain the side. Kris Lyness rejoins the club after a spell with Waringstown and will share the pace bowling duties with spearhead bowler John Guy and Callum Grieve, while Niranjan Godbole and Paul Stafford will provide the spin.

Neil Anderson returns to strengthen a batting line up where Stephen Johnston and Stephen Chambers have showed good pre-season form.
