Riddles signs for Ardmore

ARDMORE have upped the ante in the North West cricket Championship with the news that they have signed former Limavady skipper Andrew Riddles (pictured above) ahead of the new season.

This summer sees the league structures change to two 8-team Divisions and with one automatic promotion place and another play-off place available, second tier sides have been eyeing their chance to compete for one of those spots.

The Bleachgreen team had been in and out of the top league for several seasons but have failed to make it back since being relegated in 2008, however this certainly looks like a statement of intent.

Skipper Lee Brolly confirmed the signing and was delighted that the deal had gone through. “Last year the club didn’t perform to our usual standards and we felt that it was a lack of experience more than quality as we have such a young team. When I heard that Aggie was available I was very keen to bring him to Ardmore.

“When you want to sign a player to strengthen your team, you look for quality but you also need them to have character. Aggie has an abundance of this which will bring a winning mentality into the changing room as well as onto the pitch.

“Aggie strengthens both our batting and bowling this year and I’m sure he will score plenty of runs and take wickets in this league.

“We have also re-signed Adrian Murphy for this year - Adrian is one of the most explosive batsmen in the North West and he can single handedly take games away from teams.

“With the quality and experience of these two players I am sure that we can challenge for the league and cups and hopefully bring back some silverware to the Bleachgreen.”

As for Riddles himself the new signing said that he was just looking forward to getting back playing again after a fairly traumatic close season and was relishing his new challenge.

“It was a tough winter with the goings on at Limavady but unfortunately these things happen. I trained with my new team mates on Saturday and have to say there are some very good young prospects at the club.

“I know there is plenty of experience as well and Lee looks to have a useful squad around him. Ardmore need to be playing in the Premier Division and I will do everything in my power to help make that happen.”
