Sandy Bay men finish season in style

Larne Cricket Club’s 1st XI finished off their season in style last week when they completed a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Dunmurry at Sandy Bay, clinching the Section 3 title.

Dunmurry were first to bat and were soon in trouble as three wickets went early, two to Richard Hood and one to Paul Ramsay. There followed a mini-recovery as they moved to 45 without further loss, but when Chris Dempsey broke this partnership a collapse followed as they were bowled out for just 56.

As has been the case all season, it was Dempsey and Gareth Gaw who did the damage as they swept through the lower order, taking the final seven wickets between them – four for Dempsey and three for Gaw.

Fresh from his four wickets, Dempsey then strode out to open the batting with dad Trevor and he didn’t mess about as he finished unbeaten on 35 as victory was completed on the 14th over.

So, the season is now over for Larne – a relief with some teams still with plenty of games to play – and they are delighted to have won the league and bounced back to Section 2 at the first attempt.
