Side in need of a big win

Victoria won the toss and elected to bat. Matthew Parks and Joshua Thornbury took to the middle for Victoria.

Unfortunately it wasn’t long until the captain, Parks, was making his way back to the pavilion for zero after a careless shot.

Unfortunately, this seemed to set the trend as McClelland followed two balls later.

Graeme Belshaw tried to rebuild a foundation with Thornbury, before a low bounce accounted for Belshaw. Trevor Archer and Thornbury also appeared to be setting up a nice partnership, but again it was short lived.

At 36-4 Victoria were in dire need of a big partnership to give them hope, but another low bounce saw the back of Gareth Bronte, and the rest of the batting order capitulated, all out for 63, leaving Josh Thornbury stranded on 21 not out.

Ben Johnston and Glenn Thompson opened the bowling, in search of some early wickets to give Victoria a glimmer of hope.

Johnston bowled a tight opening spell, and evaded the edge on a number of occasions, but was unlucky not to get the necessary breakthrough.

Victoria tried numerous bowlers in hope of getting a rush of wickets, but to no avail.

Trevor Archer eventually got the wicket Victoria were looking for, when Steve Johnston held a skier, but by this stage Saintfield only required 18 more runs.

Despite this, they were made to work for them, as Trevor Marshall took a further wicket and bowled two maidens, and Trevor Archer bowled well from the other end.

Eventually with only a couple of runs needed, Matthew Parks dropped a catch which summed up Victoria’s day, and left them to contemplate a result which leaves them needing a big turnaround in fortunes if they are going to stay in this division.
