Sides continue Irish Senior Cup quest

ONE of the main talking points in local cricket last week was the wanton vandalism at both Limavady and Brigade's grounds.

On the field of play Brigade had a comfortable win over Eglinton to reach the final of the Northern Bank Senior cup where they will play Strabane, it was a good weekend for the Beechgrove men as they defeated Civil Service North in the Club Turf on Sunday.

This Saturday sees the quarter finals of the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup where three local sides are involved; there are also two league fixtures down for decision.

Glendermott v Fox Lodge

There should be a full house at the Rectory for this one; the home side have had an excellent season and currently are third in the table. They have match winners throughout their side and have unearthed a talent in opener David Barr.

The Foxies sit proudly at the top of the table with Limavady, a position they thoroughly deserve. They have an array of talent in their side from promising opener Jason Milligan right through to Andy Britton, and there should be a feast of runs with the visitors just getting the nod.

Prediction: Fox Lodge.

Coleraine v Railway Union

The Bannsiders have already knocked out two of the fancied sides in Clontarf and Instonians so they won't fear the Dubliners, their worry at the moment is their loss of form as they have lost their last three league games.

The visitors have a couple of internationals in their side but there is a question mark about their availability: they, like the home side, have taken a few big scalps already and they may be too strong.

Prediction: Railway Union.

Brigade v Bready

The Beechgrove men kept their season alive with their qualification for the Senior Cup Final but they still have too many batsmen under performing, the talent is there but they are not gelling.

The visitors defeated Donemana in their last outing and they are still not out of the title chase, they have some good cricketers like Steven Clarke and David Rankin to name just two.

Prediction: Brigade.

St Johnston v Eglinton

This is the big one for these two clubs both have yet to win a league game. The Donegal men are getting some big scores but their bowlers have let them down; they will keep giving their all and hope things turn around and soon.

Eglinton's bowlers did well against Brigade last week but they failed with the bat. They do have some good cricketers like Christopher Pierce and all rounder Johnny Gardiner and they may come out on top.

Prediction: Eglinton.
