Sion Mills set to celebrate 150th anniversary in impressive style

Sion Mills may be struggling a touch in the Championship this season but they has unveiled plans to mark their 150th anniversary this year with a high profile challenge game at their ground on Sunday July 20.

Cricket Ireland President Joe Doherty has agreed to work with Ireland Head Coach Phil Simmons to bring a strong Presidents XI to play a Sion Select that is likely to feature some of the North West’s best players in a 40-over contest.

Speaking recently, club secretary Simon Galloway insisted that the club are fully focused on marking this wonderful achievement and then using the momentum to build for the future.

“Given the marvellous history of Sion Mills CC, we are determined to celebrate the event properly and I am particularly pleased that we will be able to invite some of the greats like Brendan Donaghey, Tommy Harpur and Ossie Colhoun to join us.”
