Stormont visit could be pivotal in race for Premier League - Nelson

The villagers were frustrated by the weather last weekend, with the postponement of the Challenge Cup on Friday meaning the pivotal league clash with Instonians had to be rearranged.

Waringstown will be back in action against Civil Service North at Stormont on Saturday with an 11am start.

The east Belfast club have been struggling in recent weeks, but remain a dangerous force on their home ground.

Indeed, Waringstown’s defeat there last summer proved to be vital in the title race.

Captain Lee Nelson said, “This weekend in my eyes is pivotal to our chances of winning the Premier League, Stormont is one of the most difficult grounds to go to and CSNI are a very dangerous side.

“With the way the seasoning is panning out we could potentially have CIYMS and Instonians as our last two games.

“Currently we are four points clear and if we can keep chipping away with wins until then and them having to play each other twice, will stand us in very good stead.

“We were beaten at Stormont last year and are well aware of the threat that they pose with several key players, but we are keen to keep building on our current form and learn from where we went wrong last season.”

Waringstown face North Down on Friday night in a rearranged semi-final of the O’Neill’s Ulster Cup.

It will be played in a 20-over format.
