Strabane men close in on title

FOR the second year in a row Jonathon Beuckes' Strabane will secure the Billy Henderson Properties Ltd Senior One championship trophy.

The Tyrone men were joint champs last year with Limavady and they are only one victory away from retaining the title this season.

This Saturday sees the final games of what has been one of the best seasons for local cricket for many years.

St Johnston v Strabane

The Red Caps have one hand on the trophy and a win here will clinch the title, they will however remember that the home side have shocked them once already this season so they will be on their guard.

This looks like being the Saints last game in Senior One, they have looked out of their depth all season and their decision not to strengthen has proved to be a wrong one.

Prediction: Strabane.

Donemana v Brigade

The home side are finishing the season strongly having won their last three games, if they had maintained that form in the middle part of the season they would have been challenging for the title.

Brigade made a number of high profile signings at the start of the season and team manager Bertie Faulkner has said that this season has been a good one with the Northern Bank Cup in the trophy cabinet; a win here would also see them finish runners up.

Prediction: Brigade.

Coleraine v Eglinton

Wilson Torrens' side haven' t won a game since the beginning of August so their early season form helped them from getting involved in a relegation fight; with a couple of more signings they could be formidable opponents next season.

The Villagers breathed a huge sigh of relief after last Saturday's win over St Johnston; however it has been a disappointing season and they need to strengthen if they want to avoid a repeat next time round.

Prediction: Coleraine.

Glendermott v Bready

The Bonds Street side have had one of their best seasons for many years; they would have settled for their league position before a ball was bowled, their new signings have all had good seasons.

Up until last week Bready were still in with a shout for the title but they reserved their worst performance for that game; they can however look back on some excellent victories and continue to build on that.

Prediction: Bready.

Limavady v Fox Lodge

As has been said before what would have happened if the Roesiders had had their own ground? It is always difficult to play away all the time -they still were in the title race up until three weeks ago.

The Foxies' season fell somewhat apart with the loss of Darryl Brown but they still will finish in the top five, they have a young talented side that will only get better, and have probably been the most entertaining side of the season.

Prediction: Limavady.
