With rain around the area the visitors were asked to bat first and made a nervous start losing 2 wickets for 7 runs before Yogesh came in and then dominated the rest of the innings. He shared in useful partnerships with Craig Lewis and Peter Bell but it was the 101 run 7th wicket partnership with club captain Matty Jennings that really took the game beyond the home team.

Having hit 21 x 4s and 7 x 6s Yogesh was eventually dismissed with the total on 302 just 5 runs short of what would have been his maiden double century. Jennings remained undefeated on 35 as Derriaghy closed on 305 for 7.

After a short delay for rain Dundrum, mainly through their professional, made a brisk reply reaching 150 in 28 overs for the loss of 5 wickets before the pro was dismissed by Scott Hughes for a solid 78, one of two victims for him. Twin brother Wayne also chipped in with 2 wickets while Jennings picked up 3 for 41 and Lewis 2 for 37 as the home side were eventually bowled out for 215.

This was a good morale boosting win for the locals particularly after Saturday’s defeat at promotion chasing Downpatrick. Despite solid knocks of 43 from Takawale and 35 from Craig Lewis Derriaghy could only muster 134. The home side made steady progress in chasing down the required runs and although it took over 40 overs they passed the necessary total for the loss of 6 wickets.

This weekend Derriaghy face Cliftonville on consecutive days in different competitions. On Saturday at Mallusk they play in the Ulster Bank league and then on Sunday starting at 12.30pm the two teams face each other in the All Ireland National cup, this time at Queensway. A win here would see them into the semi final.

Derriaghy Second XI enjoyed a 6 wicket home win over Cooke/Collegians on Saturday. The visitors made 120 all out with Travis Morehead taking 3 for 22 and Simon Gilmore 2 for 16. Derriaghy opener Ross Bailey then carried his bat hitting a superb 54 not out and sharing in useful partnerships with Colin Crookshanks 26 and Stuart McAllister 19 as the home side got home with 10 overs to spare. This Saturday they are at home to CSNI.
