Team pull through to remain unbeaten

On Saturday Coleraine made the short trip to Ballyspallan, winning by three wickets in an entertaining and fiery affair.

Peter Wallace opted to bowl first and his decision was vindicated as the Martin brothers made early inroads. Some sloppy fielding though caused them frustration however a superb catch by Steven Harper inspired the team again.

He took an absolute peach to his right off David Doey’s bowling. Doey’s performance (3-31) was pivotal in stifling Ballyspallen’s batting, extracting extravagant turn and bounce as 65-2 soon became 74-6. Refusing to capitulate Ballyspallen recovered somewhat to make 132.

Knox fell early for a duck but Coleraine refused to be discouraged, Jarred Barnes and Steven Harper putting on 69 for the second wicket. Both Harper (14) and Barnes fell in quick succession. With tremendous strength and no shortage of class, Wallace blasted 42, in taking his team to 130 before succumbing while trying to blast the ball back to Coleraine, as the Bannsider’s won by three wickets.

Unfortunately the Seconds were to taste a heavy defeat against a strong Woodvale II in the first round of the Ulster Shield on Sunday. For 60 overs it was a close affair, but in spectacular fashion Coleraine lost eight wickets for 11 runs in a 102 run defeat.
