Thirds 'Boyd' by Richard's return

RICHARD Boyd made a successful return to competitive cricket after an absence of over a year through injury and helped Ballymena 3rds to a comfortable league victory over Bangor.

Boyd, opening the bowling for Ballymena bowled his 6 overs for just 7 runs, claiming 1 wicket.

He and fellow opening bowler Trevor McBurney bowled with pace and accuracy and had Bangor in trouble at 3 for 17 off ten.

While the Bangor middle order staged something of a recovery, Andy Craig, Paul Campbell and Harry Cook continued to pin them back, assisted by some excellent fielding and an excellent diving catch from Alasdair Frazer. Bangor finished their 30 overs on 119 for 6.

Ballymena’s reply got off to a steady start as Lytle and Carmichael put on 44 for the first wicket. Carmichael looked in particularly good touch before being well caught at mid-wicket.

Alasdair Frazer hit a quick-fire 23 and when his wicket fell, Jasper Jolly joined Lytle at the crease and the pair steered Ballymena to victory with 7 overs to spare. Lytle finished on 54no and Jolly on 16.

Cambridge House pupil, Johnny McAllister made his debut for the Thirds and, while not getting to bat or bowl, he performed solidly in the field.

This Saturday Ballymena will be away to Waringstown in the semi final of the Minor Cup but will be without Craig and McBurney.
