Tigers cricketcoaching starts

The Lurgan Tigers cricket coaching programme for Primary aged pupils is underway.

The sessions are sponsored by Moy Park and will once again be led by Lurgan’s Indian professional, Niranjan Godbole, who is now in his twelfth season with the club. In that time Niranjan has become a firm favourite with Tiger members and under his guidance the junior teams have experienced much success on the field.

Each Tuesday coaching takes place at Lurgan’s Pollock Park ground starting at 6.30pm and ending at 8pm.

The sessions are open to all boys and girls aged six and over (Primary 2 and above) with a range of groups available to ensure that all ages and abilities are catered for.

Niranjan explains, “Our youngest members usually start by playing Kwik cricket which uses a softer ball and less equipment. They then have the opportunity to progress to Inter Cricket which acts as a stepping stone between Kwik cricket and cricket with a hard ball”.

Coaching continues throughout the season and then during the school holidays sessions are available during weekday mornings for most of July and August.

Practices for secondary aged players will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 8:30pm. Lurgan field teams at all levels of NCU cricket from Under-11 to Under-17.
