Tough challenge as Lisburn CC battle for league survival

Lisburn's chance to play in a N.C.U. final was dashed last weekend when their semi'“final of the Twenty/20 competition against Carrickfergus was postponed.

The game due to be played in the Park on Saturday morning was eventually called off after a long delay when it was clear that the early heavy rain would not allow the pitch to dry in time to complete the match.

The other semi-final between Waringstown and North Down was also postponed as the weather was no better at the Lawn. The matches will be rearranged by the N.C.U for a date later in the month.

Lisburn now return to the serious business of surviving in the Premier League and face another severe test when they travel to The Lawn to play champions Waringstown.

The home team has already defeated Lisburn twice this season. The first was a league game in the Park, which saw Waringstown win by 44 runs, while the second encounter ended with Lisburn completely outplayed and beaten by 187 runs in the Challenge Cup quarter-final.

Captain Adam Berry well knows the difficulty of the situation and requires a great effort from his team if they are to threaten the league leaders. They will be bolstered by the inclusion of Nathan Waller in the team. The Zimbabwean is back in Northern Ireland until the end of the season and will add his all-round ability to the struggling Lisburn side badly in need of a victory. His bowling will strengthen the attack while his middle order striking should add another dimension to the Lisburn innings.

Surely a middle order of Cody Chetty, Stevie Lazars, Davey Simpson and Waller should be able to pose their opponents problems, but the team as a whole must produce a disciplined bowling and batting performance if an unlikely result is to be managed at The Lawn.
