Trio fighting for Senior One title

THERE are just three games remaining in the Billy Henderson Properties Senior One and after the weekend's games the title now rests between three sides.

Bready defeated Coleraine on Saturday and followed up on Sunday by beating neighbours Fox Lodge. Strabane maintained their challenge with wins over Donemana and Eglinton while Brigade had a comfortable win over Coleraine on Sunday.

Glendermott ended Limavady's chances with a thrilling win at the Rectory while at the bottom St Johnston and Eglinton lost both their games.

These results leaves Brigade, Bready and Strabane all on 22 points at the top of the table.

Brigade v Strabane

This is certainly the match of the day between two of the top three, Mark Simpson's side have shown their true form since winning the Northern Bank Senior Cup, although they will be missing Niall McDonnell who is attending a wedding in America.

Strabane were not impressive in their 1 wicket win over Donemana last Saturday where their big players failed with the bat, however that doesn't happen very often: with so much talent on view and a perfect batting strip there should be a feast of runs.

Prediction: Brigade.

Coleraine v Glendermott

The Bannsiders have had a good season, their main aim this season was to avoid the drop and that has been easily achieved, their new signings have done well and their crop of youngsters will have gained valuable experience.

The Rectory side had one of their best performances in their win over Limavady last Sunday which ensures them of a top five finish, this has been one of their best seasons for a long time.

Prediction: Glendermott.

Donemana v Bready

Azhar Shaffique's side have been a disappointment for most of the season, however they can take heart that they have a number of teenagers coming through and if they can persuade the McBrine twins to give it one more season then they will come good again.

What a season this has been for the Magheramason men, it would be fitting if they were to go on to win the title and it would be great for their skipper Davy Leckey who has kept them going all season.

Prediction: Bready.

St. Johnston v Fox Lodge

The Saints are running out of games in their bid to avoid the drop, they must now regret that they did not strengthen their side at the beginning of the season, they have been found wanting in most games with some heavy defeats.

The Foxies title aspirations ended at Bready last Sunday, they haven't been the same side since Darryl Brown's departure, still they can look back on what has been a good season.

Prediction: Fox Lodge.

Sunday

Eglinton v Limavady

The Roesiders have nothing to play for in what has been a poor season by their high standards; on paper they have as good a side as any in the league but to many times they have failed to gel.

The home side will see this as an opportunity to get that vital win they so badly need with their opponents merely fulfilling the fixture. If the Limavady men are up for it they should win.

Prediction: Limavady.
