VICTORIA started their season with a comfortable home win over Dunmurry on Saturday.

Victoria won the toss and put Dunmurry into bat. Andy Gray and Jonny Irwin opened the bowling and had the Dunmurry batsmen in trouble from the start. Gray struck twice in his second over and Irwin backed him up with wickets in consecutive overs.

There was to be no let up for the Dunmurry batsmen as Jonny Bunting was brought on and bowled a terrific spell from the Avenue Road end while Darren Vennard was introduced at the Castle End. Bunting had no luck during his spell as he repeatedly beat the bat. Vennard took three wickets in his second over.

Victoria were looking to wrap up the innings quickly, but Dunmurry managed to dig in and delayed Victoria for another six overs before Vennard got his fourth wicket. Garry McClune was brought on and wrapped up the innings with his second ball.

Victoria played sensibly to reach the total with no real worries as Robert Black and David Reiman saw them home with 10 wickets to spare.

Dunmurry 34: A. Gray 6-3-7-2; J. Irwin 5-2-4-2; D. Vennard 6-1-7-4. Victoria 38-0: D. Reiman 17 not out.
