Waringstown clinch share of title as Lurgan are relegated

The villagers won the derby game at the Lawn by nine wickets, and that was enough to earn them a share of the title with Instonians losing to Civil Service North at Shaw’s Bridge.

Lurgan meanwhile can resign themselves to Section One cricket in 2014 with net run rate relegating them instead of CIYMS, with both clubs finishing with 16 points.

Stephen Johnston’s men were never really in contention at The Lawn as they were dismissed for just 161 batting first on a superb pitch.

Neil Anderson provided most of the resistance with a gritty half-century but that total was never going to be enough.

James Hall and Aaron Kennedy (25) put together a half-century opening stand for the villagers and although Kennedy fell, Hall and McCallan took Waringstown home in emphatic fashion.

Both made unbeaten half-centuries in a commanding victory.

North Down can make it a three-way tie if they beat Civil Service North on Sunday.
