Waringstown reach quarters

The villagers, who remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, chased down a target of 211 with the minimum of fuss as James Hall continued his remarkable batting form.

The former Ireland opening batsman smashed an unbeaten 90 from just 97 balls as Waringstown reached their target with fully five overs to spare. Hall struck 10 fours and a six with his 114-run opening partnership with David Dawson instrumental in making the run chase a formality.

Dawson, who has been starved of opportunities so far this season, made the most of Simon Harrison’s absence as he struck 10 fours in making 53 from 54 balls before he was finally caught on the boundary.

Lee Nelson made 30 before he was caught and bowled while Glenn Addicott, the South African professional, smashed an unbeaten 22, including a massive six to win the match which sailed over the pavilion.

Bready’s total of 210 for nine was never likely to be enough on a superb batting pitch. They were well poised on 116 for two but after professional Agha Sabir fell for 41, bowled by Hall, the momentum slowed as the in-form left-arm spinner Gary Kidd took three for 26.

Kris Lyness, the Waringstown paceman, also deserves plenty of praise as he finished with two for 30. He might have proved expensive but he bowled quickly on an unresponsive pitch.

Nelson, captain Kyle McCallan and Keith Morrison were also among the wickets.

Waringstown have been drawn away to play Brigade at Beechgrove in the next round. The villagers also travel to the North West venue in the Irish Cup on Saturday, and the Ulster Cup tie is a week on Sunday.
