Waringstown ready for the title decider

The villagers know they must beat their close rivals, otherwise they will have ended the campaign with no trophies, having already been runners-up in both the Challenge Cup and Ulster Cup.

Nelson has refused to blame bad luck for the unfortunate defeat to CSNI in the Challenge Cup final and then the dramatic one-wicket loss to Inst at The Lawn when a win would have wrapped up the title.

“If you don’t bat well enough then you don’t deserve to win games of cricket,” he said. “In the last game we didn’t bat well enough, 150 shouldn’t win you matches.

“If we don’t bat well enough we won’t win the league, and that’s something I’ve been stressing.”

The game will be Twenty20 with Instonians rejecting the chance of a longer game. They are without professional Imad Wasim and South African Nikolai Smith, who have both returned home.

“We would be lying if we said that their pro going home wasn’t a boost,” Nelson added. “It evens things up from the first match. But they will probably have James Shannon back. Twenty20 is no different to 50 overs, whoever plays best on the day will win the game.”
