They started their weekend with a difficult looking game away at the Bee Gees, however an excellent batting performance saw the visitors take the contest away from their hosts.

Three Glendermott batsmen made half centuries - Roy Silva, Garth Watson and skipper Montgomery while Charlie Elder’s unbeaten 48 and 45 from Simon Killen piled the misery on the home attack.

The final tally was 331 for seven, two wickets apiece for David Robinson, Graeme Boyd and Ryan Nixon although none of them came cheaply.

Bonds Glen struggled to keep pace in reply and it took some late resistance from Willie Jackson and Leslie Curry to keep things respectable. Garth Watson claimed the man-of-the-match honours as he followed up his 52 runs with a bowling return of 3-10 while Silva and Curtis Ross also bowled well to claim two wickets apiece.

St Johnston had tossed their hat in the ring with some good performances of late but the Donegal men came a cropper at Burndennett to undo much of the good work.

Availability problems and the possibility of one eye on Sunday’s Irish Cup tie in Clontarf seemed to distract the visitors and Mark Roulston’s team took full advantage to stay in the race themselves. Mark Doherty batted really well for a half century at the top of the order with skipper Roulston and Gerard McAuley also contributing to a more than useful 226 for nine from their 50 overs. David Macbeth, David Lapsley, Nathan Cole and Ryan Macbeth all picked up two wickets in a solid if unspectacular effort with the ball for the Saints.

The reply was ordinary enough if truth be told with only Ethan Lapsley stepping up to the mark as he made 39. Stephen McCay, with four wickets, and two apiece for Ross McCay and Mark Roulston ended what resistance there was with the Saints all out on 119.

Killyclooney are just two points off top spot after they edged out Drummond in a close contest up in Tyrone.

Ricky McDaid top scored in the visitors’ 187 all out, the former Limavady man’s 45 the best of the batting by some way although cameos from Kyle Morrow, Jamie Millar and Stevie Moore helped the cause. Four wickets for Keith Stevenson and three for John McCreanor ensured that the home side kept a grip on the match however and despite being pushed all the way, Clooney proved up to the task.

Half centuries from brothers Alan and James Colhoun set them on their way and 38 from Mark Gordon should have ensured a handy enough win however the home side contrived to lose eight wickets before finally falling over the line.

What a turnaround this has been for Gordon’s team after winning just one league game in the previous two years, however they will be desperate to maintain the momentum into the second half of the summer.
