CUP GLORY FOR ST MICHAEL'S

THE MacLarnon Cup is coming to Lurgan after St Michael's victory on St Patrick's Day at Casement Park.

The Lurgan lads turned in an outstanding performance to defeat St Patrick’s, Keady by 1-13 to 0-8.

The St Michael’s goal was scored by Thomas McAlinden while Niall McCann, Niall McConville, Barry Seeley, Christopher McCaughey and Damien O’Hagan weighed in with impressive performances.

Manager David Wilson told the ‘MAIL’ on Wednesday: “It was a tight first half but Thomas’s goal helped open up the match. It was a great game, a tremendous performance from the lads.”

On the road to the final St Michael’s beat holders and favourites, St Pius, Magherafelt, in the quarter-final 0-12 to 0-9 and then beat a talented Carrickmacross side in the semi final by 1-7 to 0-8.

The Lurgan school’s last success came back in 2003 with captain Ivan Lavery lifting the trophy after a replay win over St Mary’s, Belfast.

A panel of 28 players have each contributed in their own way to getting the team to the final.
