Cup run due to continue this week

THE Roesiders are going to try again this weekend as they travel to Taylors Avenue to take on Carrick Rangers in the WKD Intermediate Cup after last week's game was postponed due to the weather.

This will be the fourth time that the two sides have met this season. They had two games in the CIS Insurance Cup and once in the league.

United have won all three games so far scoring a total of twelve goals in those three games.

The most recent game in the Championship ended with a five one victory at the Showgrounds.

Carrick are currently fourth in the league seven points behind the Roesiders but have played a game less.

They have scored 24 goals and conceded 21 in those fourteen games but have been in good form recently too.

In their last six games they have won three, lost twice and drew their most recent game last weekend at Bangor.

Despite the previous games that Limavady have won against Carrick this season manager Oran Kearney expects another tough game.

"I know we have won the previous three games against them but I expect this game to be tough," said Kearney.

He added: "They will be looking for revenge for those games and there is also the prospect of a semi-final in prospect for whoever wins this game.

"We didn't play very well against Glebe Rangers and all the players know that and they will be looking to improve on that.

"We have a fully fit squad again now so competition for places is tough and the players know that.

"It's good to have healthy competition within the squad. It keeps everyone on their toes and they work harder to keep a hold of the shirt.

"I'm confident going into this game that we can get the result we want and progress through to the next round," concluded Kearney.

Going into the game United will be without the services of John Neill and Michael Walsh who are both cup-tied.

Trevor Hutchinson should however be added to the squad after he returned from a wrist injury.

Marty McNutt will also return to the squad after he missed the last few games due to work commitments.
